DR. M.P. KARKI
Dr. M.P. Karki, a principled politician, an eminent physician, an educationalist and Ex – M.L.A. was born and brought up in Honnavar and completed his Bachelor degree (B.Sc.) in Belgaum and M.B.B. S. in Mumbai in 1962. After completing his medical course, he returned to his home town and gave his valuable service in this remote area.
He involved himself in different social works and served the society with his selfless efforts. He was the president of Honnavar Town Panchayat, represented Karki – Hosakuli area in taluka development board for 5 years. Dr. M.P.Karki represented Kumta – Honnavar constituency twice as an M.L.A. He was instrumental in bringing Marakal drinking water project to Kumta – Honnavar.
He served as the President of P.L.D. bank for 6 years and during his presidency the bank got the state level award. He also served as president of North Kanara District Tiles Factory of Kasarkod, which was running under loss and started earning profits within two years under his presidency. He eminently served as the Director of Karnataka Havyaka Financial Institution, as the Managing Trustee of Honnavar Havyaka, as the Chief Trustee of Mooda Ganapati Temple and many more.
He was a founding member of Malnad Progressive Education Society and became the President of the society in 1983.Under his eminent leadership, the institute has gone a long way in imparting the quality education in this area and presently it is offering education from Pre K.G. to Post Graduation and Research.
Establishing C.B.S.E. School was the dream project of Dr. Karki. Usually, for some institutional work, he used to visit several government offices, where he observed that no one is there in the field of administration from the remote areas like Honnavar and he expressed his sadness with one of his well wishers. He suggested Dr. Karki to establish a C.B.S.E. School in the area as this syllabus is the most helpful to students for competitive examinations. To keep our students competitive and cater to the demands of enlightened public and to fulfil their dream as IAS officer, IPS officer, IFS officer and many other civil services on first June 2009, he established M.P.E. Society Central School in Honnavar.
